CHH at Livestock Show – Volunteer!

by | Feb 4, 2013

CHH will be demonstrating at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from February 25 through March 17.

If you’d like to volunteer, please check the Schedule to see what days we need people. Any day with less than three volunteers, plus Blaine, Sharon or Alecia is one that we need help with, although do check and see if both 4 harness looms are spoken for if that’s what you want to do. We will have cardboard looms available that we can let kids use, and we might even give some of those away. So you can always help with that. We will also have the large tapestry loom, spinning wheels and fiber available. For spinners we will have the new LadyBug spinning wheel for you to try out.

Shifts on week days are from 10:00 to 2:00 and on weekends there are two shifts each day, 10:00 – 2:00 and 1:30 – 5:00. You will be furnished with an entry ticket and with a parking pass or a shuttle bus ticket from the Reed Road lot if you prefer that. You can also ride the train to just outside of the Reliant Arena, or come on one of the other buses that travel from all over town. Also you’re free to wander around the livestock show before or after your shift.

Pick a day that’s available and then e-mail Blaine Davis at or call 713-664-3128. Once the rodeo starts, and on days that I’m there you can also reach me on my cell phone at 832-638-8813.

The rodeo lasts for three weeks and we need everyone to help. If you’re concerned about driving there, and it’s a day that I’ll be there, you can drive to my house in West University and then ride with me. Or see if there’s someone else on that day you might ride with.

If you’ve never woven and want to give it a try, it’s a perfect place to come and work on a four harness loom for the first time. (Even though there will be people watching, but you can always just go real slow and talk to lots of them.) If a spinner is there you might be able to catch a lesson from one of them too, so it doesn’t matter what your skill level is, just come and give it a try.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Blaine Davis
