This humble, but powerful textile exhibit, gives a glimpse into the lives of the fiercely proud tribesmen and women through the woven work they do. Traditional textiles as well as the contemporary work they create for the western market was on display. The Karenni refugees from Burma, are [art of an organization we are familar with, called Community Cloth. Roxann Paivi, co-founder of Our Global Village / Community Cloth, is as passionate as ever about the refugee community here in Houston. She was instrumental in organizing the show at Houston Art Alliance. Roxann, Pat, along with Mary Welch and Dee Dee Woodbury held a panel discussion about weaving and micro enterprise. It was a lively discussion in a casual setting, enlightening those in attendance of the vibrant weaving community that is CHH.
