Second Annual Texas Star Workshop with Jason Collingwood

by | Aug 23, 2010

This in from Charlotte Allison:

Join us in wonderful, historic Fredericksburg , Texas – July 12 – July 15, 2011

Plain weave: An ideal course for those wishing to try out rug weaving, though with enough ‘tricks’ to suit the more experienced weaver.
Students will learn how to make a strong serviceable rug (plain weave being an excellent structure for rugs). Initially weaving stripes and spots using two colours, learning how to overcome the selvage problems inherent in each different design. Clasped wefts, crossed wefts and compensated inlay will be covered, all these new techniques giving the weaver more freedom with design. (Jason tells me he will give us more ideas than there is time to weave them in 4 days! All techniques can be translated to other cloth and not solely for rug weaving.)

Location: Fredericksburg Inn and Suites, 201 South Washington, Fredericksburg , Texas 78624 Telephone: 800-446-0202 The Inn is 1 ½ block walking distance to Main Street – wonderful restaurants and shopping.

We have a special rate of $85/night. When calling for reservations, be sure to mention Texas Star Workshop. Continental breakfast, coffee and soft drinks 24/7. Small refrigerators and microwaves in each room, swimming pool. The workshop is in the Barons Creek Conference Center , adjacent to the hotel parking lot. This is a beautiful facility with plenty of room for the workshop…tables for Jason to instruct and another area for snacks/meals/visiting. We also have use of a full kitchen.

Cost: $350 – deposits of $175 due at time of registration – balance due at time Jason purchases his airline tickets. He will be coming from Australia so his ticketing will be at the end of February. Class size limited.

We have the conference center available to us on July 11th. Everyone will bring their looms dressed. We will be there to help “tweak” so that on day one, we are all on the same page. Jason will give me the warping instructions and materials list in September.

Everyone is welcome to bring weaving related items for sale. This will be an honor system as I am asking 15% from the sale. This money will go towards a scholarship for 2012.
