The Silk Painting Workshop will provide a weekend for exploring silk painting techniques. The studio will have French silk dyes, wax, gutta resists, thickeners, anti-fusant and other materials for use by students. We will cover multiple techniques – using salt and vodka to create patterning and shading, using wax, fabric sizing and gutta to create resists, and using other methods such as wet-on-wet, line building, and blending and shading of dyes.

Methods for preparing and stretching silk for painting and the steam-setting process for fixing the dyes will be demonstrated. Participants will create multiple pieces using the various techniques.
