African Textiles at September Meeting

by | Sep 24, 2014

Our speaker was Matthew Scheiner of Gallery Jatad Fine Tribal Art in Houston. He brought a number of beautiful old textiles from Cameroon, Zambia and several other African countries for us to touch and examine. Several of the pieces such as the very long indigo wall hangings and the masks were ceremonial. The woven bridal tapestry was hung to provide privacy. The animals on the hanging in one of the very old pieces were beaded. Click on any photo to enlarge.
