Clarice Shanks (See her Hugh on the right) and Gerry Woodhouse have been juried into the 2011 Texas Museum of Fiber Arts Show. Texas by the Yard and Yarn: Texas a Fabrication, runs from October 18 – November 18, 2011. The Exhibit Site is One Congress Plaza, 111 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX.

Carol Ikard with Texas Museum of Fiber Art says it best:

There is a saying, “Shoot for the moon, and even if you miss it, you land among the stars.” And so each artist who entered the TMFA competition is very much among the stars. The juror deliberated diligently and the following are in the exhibit. Those whose names are not on the list are to be congratulated for sharing their imagination and creativity. Not every artist is as brave as you. To me you are definitely a star.

Joining me in this sentiment is Robert Hils, the 2011 Juror who wrote:

“As a fiber artist and educator, I was heartened by the amazing array of work submitted for this exhibition. Unfortunately, not all of the work could be chosen for the exhibition space, but I congratulate all of the entrants for their obvious love of fiber.

The pieces that were chosen for special award recognition stand out for their unique use of materials, as well as their creative execution of concept, design and presentation.

It is my hope that venues showcasing work in fiber, such as the Texas Museum of Fiber Arts, will inspire artists to continue exploring the endless possibilities that the fiber medium offers.”
