Felt United at HCCC

by | Aug 21, 2009

The United Nations has designated 2009 the International Year of Natural Fibers. Join felters from around the world as they celebrate natural fibers in an International Day of Felt, October 3, 2009.

Felt – intertwined, bound together, forever as one – United.

Felters in every corner of the world will display their felt outside on that day. All of the felt on display will be made in colors taken from a slice of the color wheel, yellow through red.

In Houston felted flowers, plants, leaves, insects, birds, butterflies, lizards,… will be displayed in the Craft Garden of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC). This exhibition will open October 3, 2009 as an outdoor installation and the items will remain on display as long as they last. Everyone is invited to participate in this event. The only requirements are that the items must be felt made from wool and in the colors yellow through red from the color wheel.

All items should be delivered ready to be displayed to the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, 4848 Main St. by September 28, 2009. (www.crafthouston.org) Items may be dropped off at HCCC during regular business hours from September 14-28th and should be labeled “Felt United”. For more information contact Barbara Kile, .
