Note from Blaine for 2014: CHH will not be demonstrating at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this year. They have added some large exhibits to the AgVenture area and didn’t see a way to fit us in. Thanks to everyone who’s helped in the past, and who knows, we may be back some day.
Each year members of Contemporary Handweavers of Houston and other area guilds provided hours of volunteer work demonstrating weaving and spinning (and a variety of interlacements such as knitting, crocheting and kumihimo) to the thousands of visitors to Agventure at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The HLS has been one of CHH’s annual demonstration venues. Our organization gave many hours of spinning and weaving demonstrations using wool, mohair, angora rabbit and llama. We loved the opportunity to educate the community concerning the use of natural fibers through a wool-to-wardrobe fashion show, educational demonstrations, and exhibits. Fleece is provided for spinning.
