Paste paper is a patterned or textured paper made by applying brushes or hand tools to the surface of paper that has been coated with thin colored paste and is still wet. This technique was used as early as the 16th century (usually by bookbinders) and is having a resurgence today. One of the distinctive qualities of paste papers is the rich 3 dimensional patterns and designs. This is achieved because when the paste is first applied to the paper and a pattern is made into it, the paste is sucked flat onto the paper as it dries, leaving a 3-D pattern, a 2-D surface. We will be trying several recipes of paste. All CHH members are welcome.
