What Inspires Us

Ruth just completed Gerry Woodhouse’s Tapestry class at Guild House. She sent this photo of a tapestry by Nancy Garretson and shared her thoughts.

Ruth says: I am attaching a copy of the Garretson tapestry. …. The snow is heavily padded as well as the rocks in the stream. The mountains are less so and the sky, not at all. The foreground trees have been added on top and are not totally sewn down. The little dark firs in the middle are thick but I’m not sure that is padding. Looks and feels like a double weaving technique, if there is such a thing. If you lift up the “water overflows” they are hanging free. The little waterfalls in the middle look to me to be added accents. The back is lined and so I can’t get to the back of the weaving to see all the details. Anyway, I love it and it was my inspiration (along with her other work) to try my hand at creating something.

Check out this post on the recent Tapestry Class.

I invite others to submit what inspires them.
