At the May 15 meeting, Anne-Louise Schaffer will give a slide presentation on Folk Costumes from Eastern Europe, focusing on how they have changed over the last century and what factors caused those changes. It is not always obvious or direct. She will use four different towns or regions as examples: one in Poland, two in Hungary, and one in Croatia. Afterwards, she will give a brief show-and-tell of her own costumes from those areas.
Anne is an art historian who served for 14 years as the Curator of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. An avid folk-dancer on the side for 45 years, she has been fascinated by — and has collected — the costumes of the peoples whose dances give her such joy.
Our meetings start at 6:30 for fellowship with the business meeting at 7:00 followed by Showand Tell and our program.
