Join Jennifer Moore for Doubleweave: Beyond the Basics, a three day workshop.

In this round robin workshop participants will explore what can be done within the techniques of doubleweave with multiple layers of cloth on a multi-shaft loom. We will weave samples and study the theory behind a variety of structures. Four-shaft structures include 4-color block rotation, double-block layer exchange, tubular log cabin, and overshot-patterned doubleweave. Eight-shaft structures include 4-layer weaves, double-width twill cloth, decorative stitched cloth, doubleweave checkerboards and windows, 8-shaft double-blocks, twill pickup and block pickup.

Participants will weave samples and study the theory behind a variety of structures including:

Four-shaft structures
– Four-color block rotation
– Double-block layer exchange
– Tubular log cabin
– Overshot-patterned doubleweave

Eight-shaft structures
– Four-layer configurations
– Double-width twill cloth
– Invisible stitching
– Decorative stitching
– Two-block checkerboard
– Two-block windows
– Twill pick-up

Drafts will be distributed ahead of time to participants based on loom type appropriate for each structure. Participants should come with their loom warped and ready to go. Jennifer will begin with a demonstration and explanation of each of the weave structures. Over the course of the workshop you will have more in-depth lectures on each weave structure. Participants will weave a small sample on each of the looms as time permits and go home with a nice library of diverse examples of what can be done in the vast world of doubleweave.

Students will bring a 4-shaft or 8-shaft table or floor loom warped according to instructions.
