Eco-Printing, Basics
Working with a variety of leaves, participants will explore the art of making botanical prints on fabric with eco-printing, a natural dye process that creates incredible prints of leaves on fabric without using artificial dyes or harmful chemicals. This workshop will cover techniques to achieve the clear prints and will also review mordanting to create color variations. Prints are "color fast" and will not wash out or fade quickly, and the printed fabrics can be used in clothing, household items, quilting, collage, or can be works of art themselves. Participants are encouraged to bring their own leaves to experiment with. Knowledge can also be expanded to making prints on paper.
$35 materials fee due to the instructor the day of class. Materials fee includes 2 yards raw silk and 2 crepe de chine scarves, "carrier" fabric, dowels, string, leaves, and mordants.
