About the Juror
Considered by many to be the nation’s leading contemporary tapestry artist, Jon Eric Riis has perhaps more than any other artist taken the ancient craft of hand-woven tapestry to the level of important contemporary fine art. Through the duration of his career he has taught fiber classes and held exhibitions in the United States, Europe and Asia. He recently was one of three guest artists who was featured at the 6th Riga International Textile and Fiber Art Triennial held in Latvia. The tapestries of Jon Eric Riis can be found in the permanent collection of The Art Institute of Chicago, the American Craft Museum in New York, the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Museum of Art in Washington D.C., among others.
